We have been telling this for a quite a long time - that we are knowledge workers/ professionals. More than that we have to be knowledgable to help people grow. We are the super teachers and should be proud of what we are. Any L&I professional gathering you attend you get a feeling that we are a dejected lot? why? Knowing what we do not know is also Knowledge - and we have a habit of admiting that. So what really happens is the really learned respect us and people who are "so called learned" do not respect.

ReplyDeleteNice to see the response. The problem I strongly feel is not with the non-availability of any studies - We do not outsell ourselves - we are a bit sobre and lack the aggressiveness which you find in many of the other professionals. The Library Schools around here are not able to sell the products (passed out students) to good employers. The Librarians need to explore new markets; bring in changes in the syllabi as required; L&I School teachers, Senior Librarians (who have a say in the society/ community) and Library Associations need to focus on to this problem.
