Spaces”
on Friday-Saturday, 7-8  February 2014
at South Campus, Delhi University, New Delhi,
India

Conference
Theme
With the
emergence of distributed forms of information in a double click
environment, the role of physical libraries have changed considerably over the
last ten years, to reflect changes in the nature of education. The importance
of collaboration, group work and communication in teaching and learning are
widely recognised and the central role of the library as a repository of
facts and information is changing. While it is still important to have this
kind of resource, it has proven to be a diminishing draw in terms of library
traffic.
The notion
of transforming libraries into social and cultural spaces is an expansive role
for the future library not only serving as an information resource, but much
more, with the exact mission and goals evolving and changing over time. A
culture-based library is one that taps into the spirit of the community,
assessing priorities and providing resources to support the things deemed most
important. Libraries are in a unique position to experiment with creative
spaces so the future role of the library can define itself. Since the role of
the library 20 years from now is still a mystery, libraries need to  put
their heads  together to  scratch the surface of many more changes to
come and determine what ideas are drawing attention and getting traction.
The conference aims
to address the main issues of concern within the framework of this
transformation.

About this book

This
special edition of the book is significantly quite special, in many
senses. It is so special because the information journey of Dr T A V
Murthy to whom it is dedicated to his achievement is an extraordinary
one.

Over the years, the disciplines LIS and various domains
in it have changed in a number of important ways. This has created
almost limitless opportunities fibre new digital networks of greatly
enhanced capabilities. Many domains in LIS have been influenced by
Information technology which created the need to LIS professional for
developing methods rather than using the methods and applications. This

common LIS principles and to provide insight into some of the new
progress that evolve in recent years. This book is designed to be used

Meet Sandhya, the Silent, Sincere and Senior Serials Librarian

It is my privilege and my responsibility to introduce Ms. Sandhya Gir, Senior Library Officer, ICRISAT (Patancheru 502324 Andhra PradeshIndia email : s.gir@cgiar.org ) to our LIS community. She has put in over 30 years of steady service in ICRISAT and has been the pillar post for Library services in ICRISAT, when all others including me left the Library in search of greener and/or easier jobs.

We always see her like this and even this photograph is taken by our colleague Mr. David without her knowledge.

She has a very rich experience in handling serials management. She can be contacted for getting a practical insight into the intricacies and idiosyncrasies of Serials management.
